Warm, Sweet, and Healing Postpartum Smoothie

Updated: Jan 5, 2020

I have created this smoothie based on a recipe that Holistic Psychiatrist Dr. Kelly Brogan recommends as a protein-filled way to start the day and keep mood and blood sugar stable.

Ayurveda tells us that new mothers should eat warm, grounding, and moist foods.  Traditional smoothies do NOT have these qualities- they are cold, usually full of raw fruits and vegetables, and dairy-heavy. These make them hard for a new mama's delicate digestion to process. HOWEVER, this smoothie will turn this paradigm on its head. The texture and warmth may take some getting used to...but give it a shot - you might start craving them like I do!

Warm, Sweet, and Healing Smoothie

Ingredients 1/2 c berries, room temperature 1 banana or stewed fruit 1 c hot water 1/2 c coconut milk, or other milk alternative 1 T nut butter 1-2 T protein or collagen powder 1T cocoa powder 1/4 t cinnamon (if you need to boost digestion/agni more, sprinkle in ginger powder, black pepper, turmeric, or cardamom) 1 splash apple cider vinegar or lemon juice 1-2 raw egg yolks (trust me!)

optional: honey, dates. maple syrup, ghee, 2 T cooked oatmeal, 1 t nutritional yeast

Instructions Put everything in the blender adding egg yolks last. Blend for 1 minute. Drink while warm!
